HW Creativity

One way new media fosters creativity is that it allows people to be inspired and create things on their own. Whether its avatars or music mashups. In the article The New math of mashups by Sasha Frere-Jones, " Using digital software, Brown isolated instrumental elements of “Debra,” a song by Beck from his 1999 album “Midnite Vultures.” Brown, who is thirty-three and has studied with Max Roach, adjusted the tempo of “Debra” and added live drums and human beat-box noises that he recorded at his small but tidy house in Long Island City. Then he sifted through countless a-cappella vocals archived on several hard drives." This is done by many DJs today. Where they will take songs and distort it or take 2 songs and combine it together. With new media people can be inspired by other works and create something completely new with it

Creativity and New Media

For this assignment I went and downloaded second life and created an avatar. This fosters creativity because I wanted to create something weird because its a game and I can do anything I want. My avatar on a horse is a start. Something similar to second life, Nintendo just released a game calling Animal Crossing its similar to second life as it is used as a way to escape the real world. It's just more updated and more fun in my opinion to second life.

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

There are many ways virtual worlds can be used some include gaming experiences, training programs for military or medical training. One example of a pro can be excessing imagination. According to the article "After Second Life, Can Virtual Worlds Get a Reboot" by Diane Mehta it mentions that Minecraft "it's digital LEGOS if you will, but it's a space for kids to exercise their imagination to connect with others to also want to build and create things. However there can be cons, one example would be believing a virtual world and the real world are the same. According to the article "Virtual world may impact real-world behavior", it states that "Research suggests that how you represent yourself in the virtual world of video games may affect how you behave toward others in the real world. Virtual worlds can foster creativity because you can create anything in virtual worlds there's no limits so if you can think it, you can create it. I think

Blog: Social networking sites

I have Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Instagram. I believe each of them are really useful in their own way.   For Facebook, I use it as like a primary way of communication and this is something I would share with classmates or colleagues rather than my personal number because this is usually something we all have. For twitter, you can see what's trending and what other people are tweeting about and join in on the conversation. Linkedin is really important, it allows you to connect with other people in your industry and see what all your colleagues are up to. Instagram, is very similar to Facebook but a lot more photos but it's not more about friends but rather you are sharing it with the world.

Blog about Twitter

In twitter, students are able to tweet through their phones, I'm not too sure about this but I don't think we can post discussions through our mobile phones, even if we are able to, I don't think it would be as easy as twitter. Also, twitter can be seen through the public and blackboard can be only seen through the public. However, I do believe that each has its own perks. Twitter would be great for constantly engaging, whereas blackboard you can write in depth and meaningful posts because there is a character limit on twitter.Twitter can be helpful in an in-class discussion, everyone can see what everyone is posting and people can reply whenever they are free.
What are some ways (corporate and otherwise) that these technologies can be used? What are the benefits of these technologies to society? Be specific. Is there a "dark side"? Make sure to include your opinion of the way these technologies might evolve in the future. Social Media can be used to connect people and ideas all across the world. One example right now would be the Corona Virus, there's speculation that China might be  misleading the world with how serious they are being hit right now and might be underplaying the virus. So people in China, share what's really going on in the infected cities. One dark side to this, is that we have no way to verify its authenticity, and it might spread unnecessary panic to the world. In my opinion, I think social media will become like auto-biography of our lives. In the article "Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting" by Frank Langfitt, it says "Linkedin, a network of 8 million professionals sprea
